Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable Bee Hive Assistants for seasonal work to support our beekeeping operations in Chipping Norton. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, have a keen interest in nature, and are eager to learn about beekeeping. You will work directly with our experienced apiarists, assisting with various tasks essential to the health and productivity of our bee colonies. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for those new to the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist apiarists with routine hive inspections, including checking for queen presence, disease, and honey stores.
- Help with the relocation and installation of new bee colonies.
- Support in harvesting honey and processing beeswax.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of apiary equipment and surrounding areas.
- Monitor bee health and report any unusual observations to the lead apiarist.
- Perform general apiary maintenance tasks, such as clearing vegetation and repairing hive components.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols, especially when working with bees.
Required Skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Capable of physical labour, including lifting and carrying equipment.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions meticulously.
- Comfortable working around bees (with appropriate protective gear).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in agriculture, horticulture, or outdoor manual labour.
- A basic understanding of beekeeping or entomology.
- Valid UK driving licence and access to transportation.
