Job Description
BGC Construction is seeking an experienced and dedicated Private Certification Lead to join our team in Kalgoorlie. This pivotal role involves overseeing and managing all aspects of private building certification for our diverse portfolio of construction projects. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with Australian building codes, standards, and relevant legislation, providing expert guidance to project teams and external stakeholders. You will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory adherence throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design review to final occupancy certification. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the private certification process for all assigned construction projects, ensuring timely and compliant approvals.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of building plans, specifications, and documentation against the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to project managers, architects, and design teams on compliance matters and certification requirements.
- Liaise effectively with local councils, government bodies, and other regulatory authorities.
- Perform site inspections at critical stages of construction to verify compliance with approved plans and certification requirements.
- Manage and resolve any non-compliance issues, working collaboratively with project teams to implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to all certification activities.
- Stay abreast of changes in building legislation, codes, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
- Accreditation as a Building Surveyor or Private Certifier in Western Australia (or ability to obtain).
- Minimum 6 years of experience in private building certification within the Australian construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), relevant Australian Standards, and local planning regulations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in interpreting complex architectural and engineering drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
- Experience with a diverse range of project types (commercial, residential, industrial).
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a certification team.
- Membership with relevant industry bodies (e.g., Australian Institute of Building Surveyors – AIBS).
